What is Young Living’s Sead to Seal® promise?
When you decide to use essential oils, it is very important to make sure that you use the best quality possible. Unfortunately, the essential oils industry is not regulated and it is often the profit that outweighs the quality.
Many essential oils are adulterated with synthetic molecules, others are even diluted in vegetable oils and sometimes even contaminated with pesticides, herbicides and other toxic chemicals. There is no organization that regulates the use of the term ”Pure and Natural”. It is not uncommon to find pure and natural essential oils on the market, tha are not pure at all.
In addition, sometimes we can have access to essential oils that are indeed ” pure and natural”, but unfortunately have been distilled in an artisanal way. These essential oils are safe to use, but sometimes they are less effective. The art of distillation is extremely important to ensure that your essential oils are complete and that no chemical molecules, no matter how small, have been destroyed during the distillation process. It is really all the chemical components of essential oils that makes it strong, each molecule is important.
After several courses on essential oils and several research, I decided to buy my essential oils from the company Young Living because of their quality garanty Seed to Seal®.
Young Living is the world leader in essential oils. They have been setting standards for the purity and authenticity of essential oils worldwide since 1998. From start to finish, they monitor every stage of production through their unique ” Seed to Seal® ” process. This unparalleled commitment to quality means you can rest assured that the essential oils and oil-infused products you use at home are safe. They own several farms (and distilleries) around the world. They also select partner farms with whom they will collaborate carefully to enforce the rules of their Seed to Seal® process.
Seed – Cultivate – Distill – Test – Seal
Sow: Start only with the best seeds. Powerful and effective essential oils come from seed and plants that have been tested by Young Living specialists for their potentials and supported by experienced university partners.
Cultivate: Young Living’s farms are located around the world (and even in Canada) and they are dedicated to perfecting the best methods of growing and harvesting. Our specialists also travel to visit our cooperative farms to see if their growing and growing processes meet Young Living high standards. These operations assure us of a continuous source of essential oils that meet the high standards of Young Living.
- A maximum of 2/3 of the top of each flowering plant can be harvested.
- Harvesting plants that do not have flowers is prohibited.
- Plants can only be harvested using manual scissors so as not to damage the other parts.
- The natural habitat of the wild plant can not be damaged and any disturbance of the soil due to harvesting activities must be corrected.
- Harvesting wild plants requires a special permit issued by the Ministry of the Environment.
- Young Living oils are weeded by hand and much better than organic standards
Gary Young founded his first organic farm in 1998, long before essential oils were popular in America.
Distillate: By combining old and modern production techniques, Young Living is recognized as an innovator in the distillation of essential oils. They use a gentle and exclusive technique for steam extraction of essential oils. They also use cold pressing and tapping methods. They own several distillations sites.
Test: Essential oils are tested in the field, right after the plants are harvested. No one else tests oils right on location where they are being distilled. Young Living identifies the right time of the harvest and the right time for the distillation. 100’s of tests are run to determine they are the highest quality of essential oils in the world.
Young Living will NEVER accept diluted, cut or adulterated oils. To ensure consistent quality, our oils are tested in Young Living’s internal labs as well as by third parties. We ensure that they meet our rigorous specifications that exceed international standards and that essential oils contain the most active natural bioactive compounds.
Here is an exaustive list of the tests that are performed on batches of essential oil before they are approved and bottled to be delivered directly to the customer:
(Viscometry, Densiometry, Refractometry, Polarimetry, Mass-Spectometry ICP-MS & ICP-OES, Gas Chromatography (GC), High Performance Liquid Chromatrography (HPLC), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectometry, Automated Micro-Enumeration, Desintegration Testing, pH, Flash Point, Microscopy, Combustibility, Chiral Chromatography and IRMS.)
A minimum of 7 tests is carried out for each batch of essential oil produced. They also call on external firms to test them again to ensure quality and transparency.
Seal: Young Living is executing the Seed to Seal® process at its 107,000 square foot facility in Spanish Fork, Utah. Essential oils will only touch stainless steal or glass before they are bottled. Only 100% essential oils are bottled.
Using state-of-the-art equipment, each essential oil is inserted into an amber glass protection bottle, ready to be shipped directly to members anywhere in the world. From home to home!
Some of the essential oils and products of Young Living have been approved by health canada for their health benefit and include a NHP or Natural Health Product Number.

What is NHP?
According to the Health Canada website, “Natural Health Products (NHPs) are natural substances used to restore or maintain good health. They are often made from plants, but they can also be made from animal microorganisms and marine sources. They are available in a wide variety of forms such as tablets, capsules, tinctures, solutions, creams, ointments and drops.
Do you still doubt their quality? So I suggest you go visit one of their farm and go to work at the next harvest. You will then be able to see each step by yourself, starting with respect for the plant, the controlled distillation process and the tests performed on the collected oils. I myself visited Mona’s farm in Utah. I could see juniper berry, scalped sage and I planted moor. I was able to have access to all these stages and to be able to talk to the people who work there full time. Young living is a big family and I am one of them.
